Sadness is heavy

This morning, my darling puppy mill rescue Heartworm Hazel was transported to the hospital where she remains in critical condition. Hazel came to me 3 years ago after she was thrown out by a puppy mill because she was no longer producing and had an agressive case of heartworms.
My vet told me not to become attach as he did not think she would make it through the heartworm treatment.
Well we are 3 years later................
Out of the blue, she fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. So ill, the vet did not know if he could do anything for her, but it giving everything he has to have a Hazel recovery. Hazel is 12 years old - we think - maybe older. She had lived a very hard and difficult life, but is the sweetest thing on earth.
I am not sure she will make it through this as so many things are against her, but we are going to try everything.

Out of all this grief, I made a couple of decisions I think Hazel would be happy with. The bakery's cookies will be renamed......Hazel's Own. Hazel's Cookies, Hazel's, - ...still working on that.
And I have begun the paperwork for a foundation, The Hazel Foundation, that will help pet parents who do not have the finances to have yearly check ups, shots, have their dog or cat spayed or neutered and cannot have the medical care their pet needs to get better. This would cover catastrophic conditions and/or illnesses.
The Bakery already offers free organic food and cookies to Hospice patients. so now we are going a step further.

Stop Puppy Mills

Beside my dog bakery and natural products for dogs business, I rescue dogs. Currently I have 12 dogs and 2 cats. Most are puppy mill rescues, others have been abused and/or neglected, shot, starved, left alone for years with no human interaction, just dry food thrown at them every few days. I could go on and on......

I am hosting an online party in April in conjunction with the Humane Society of US to stop puppy mills. Please visit this URL and sign up to attend or donate to this wooferful cause.

I will have things to send you after you sign up to "attend". This is an online party. There will be a conference call during this national event. I will send the call in number and passcode so you can attend from your home.

Thank you for your support.

Be careful buying treats

I have noticed many people jumping on the ole bandwagon ofmaking homemade dog treats. I have nothing against this as there are many dogs out there, so there is enough demand for suppliers. My issue is many of the people doing this, go to a book store, buy a dog recipe book and start baking. If you look at these recipes books, they use off the shelf human products which have preservatives, additives, coloring artificial flavors, etc. granted, these products may not be as harmful as commercial dog treats, but they are still not healthy. Many recipes use whole wheat flour, unbleached flour, rice flour, soy flour. All of which are not the best thing for dogs and are main causes of allergies. Milk is one of the worse things you could use. Eggs are not the best either. And vegetable and safflower oil are total NO-NOs.
We at The Pink Poodle use only certified, organic ingredients from USA sources. We are actually looking for land to produce our own organic ingredients. This has been a way of life for me for almost 2 decades. I am certified in Holistic Care for companion animals, practice accupressure on all my dogs and only natural remedies. To me animals are just like us and needed to be treated as such. It is a passion for me.

New to Blogger

Hi. We are The Pink Poodle Bakery, an all natural, organic dog bakery. I have baked and cooked for my dogs since the 90's. A few years ago I was encouraged to offer my product to the public. After much coaxing, I went for it and am thrilled I did. I have met many dog people, have many clients throughout the USA and Canada.
We use all certfied organic ingredients, hand mix and cut our cookies. We do not make bulk doughs and freeze. We prepare fresh daily.

I have added ECO friendly dog beds and toys, natural remedies, herb and essential oil based dog care products. The Pink Poodle Bakery has been in Pet Product News, a national industry magazine.

This is my passion, not just a business. I am certified in Holistic Care for Companion animals. All 12 of my dogs (all rescues) eat my cookies, cakes, muffins and meals daily, sleep on the beds, play with the toys, are cared for with our dog products and use the natural remedies. My dogs have not been to a vet in years. They are that healthy.

I hope you stop by time to time to see what The Pink Poodle Bakery is up to.
