On Track Now

So much for the daily blog. We are back on track now. Promise. This is Buki writing today. I am the 2nd of The Three Musketeers.
It has been very hot in the south for the past couple of weeks. We don't go outside too much because we can't breath very well in the high humidity. Not going outside means we are indoors helping mom with all her activities. I know she loves all our help. Her two moments I think are when she is rearranging a room (which she does all the time). We like to wait until mom has the room in total disarray then we offer our "help"; jumping on furniture, playing doggie tag, wrestling, all the things that make her laugh. I have noticed she does not laugh as much when she is moving things around. I wonder why....................
Her second is when she is on the phone with an important call. Because she has the blogs, radio show, magazine and articles to write, she is on calls a lot. We don't like that much because it takes away from our time, so Bodhi usually gets us barking and howling during the calls. We think it is very funny. Her? Not so much!
Because it is so hot and humid, we do sleep more than usual. Mom needs to make more beds. Henry, our Dane brother, hogs all our beds and he has his own couch he can lay on!!!! It is not fair. We like our beds better than his couch.
Homer and Maynard went to the Spa Sunday. We take turns going. It is too much for the Spa to have all of us go on one day. We did it a couple of times and it was a lot of fun, but all the humans thought it better if we came in 2's or 3's. I heard something about all of us were like having 10 2 year old toddlers running around. I don't know about that. We are well behaved. and know our manners. We can get a bit rowdy (we like to do that to humans sometimes). Maybe that is what they were talking about.
Everyone is beginning to take a nap, so I guess I will join them. Have a pawsome day.

Gertie, Oscar, Bessie, Jessie and Henry

Time to introduce the rest of the family.

Gertie, (Gertrude) was a puppy mill throw away because she could not produce any longer. When Gertie came home she did not have a clue what toys were. She was actually very afraid of them. I would put her on a fluffy pillow and she would scramble off as quickly as she could to find the hardest surface possible to lay on. She was very timid. To pick her up was a trial. She would scoot away until you could corner her to pick her up. Going outside was an adventure. Gertie would look longingly outside but was scared to venture out. It took weeks to get her outside. Now, 3 years later she loves laying outside, plays with toys all day, torments her brothers and sisters all day and is much easier to pick up. She is still timid about food. Every dog has their own dish, but Gertie continues to creep up on her dish so timidly. If another dog wants to go to her dish she runs away. We are working on that. Hopefully someday.
Gertie is Front Desk Receptionist with the company. the position is helping her become more outgoing.

Oscar. Oh Oscar. Oscar was rescued from an enclosed back porch where he lived for 5 years. He had no human companionship, had his food thrown on the floor and never saw outside. When Oscar came home he was very grouchy (thus his name). I walked with pillows around my ankles for weeks so he couldn't bite me. Because he was not cared for, his skin was and is a mess, (although improving), he trusted no one and had no social skills.
Today Oscar loves to be held and go on car rides. He loves going to the spa and be pampered. He doesn't really play with the others but does intermingle with them. When I was building the company, I thought the perfect position for Oscar would be Customer Service Manager (tongue in cheek). He is marvelous at it.

The sisters, Bessie and Jessie were rescued from a puppy mill at 5 weeks of age. They came to me at 1 and a half years old. These two are inseparable. They sleep together, play together, do everything together. Bessie is the dominant sibling. Jessie is the beauty. Bodhi loves Jessie. My neighbor calls them The Bitches, because after almost a year they still bark and bark when he is outside. Of course they bark and bark at anything or anyone.
Bessie is my Research Assistant and Jessie is In House Talent. She appears in some of our publicity shots.

Henry the Dane. I received a call from an area shelter when Henry arrived. The Director knew I had had a Great Dane rescue years ago and thought I would be the best one to take him in. Henry had been shot 3 times and was starved. His rear foot was broken. You could see the outline of every bone in his body. Yet, he was such a sweetheart. I immediately took him to my vet to began his healing. After a few days in the hospital he came home. It was so much fun having a Dane in a cast. especially in the rainy spring. In Henry's mind, he is a Pekingese.
Henry is Loss Prevention/Security Director.

So that is the family. Now that introductions are complete we will be writing on a daily or every other day basis. There is alot happening within the company so we are busy but we will make time to let you in on some of our day's activities.

A Day in the Life

My home consists of 10 rescued dogs; 9 Pekingese and 1 Great Dane who thinks he is a Peke. My neighbor loves to watch them when they are outside because of each distinct personality and how it plays out in the group.
The "kids" thought it would be fun to document their daily activities on this blog. And so, as almost every idea they come with, I agreed. Mostly because their paws are too large to type, so I get to be the type person. They dictate. I type.

Today, everyone wants to be introduced. It's a good idea because this house is in a constant state of activity of some sort and with 10 main characters. a reader may become confused. (My dogs are the smartest dogs!!! I am sooooo proud).

In order of their adoption:

Buli - Buli is a lover. He has to be next to you at all moments. You move. He moves. If you are showing attention to another, Buli will be immediately pushing in to get his fair share. Buli will be 6 years old this October. He came to our home when he was 5 months from a puppy mill. Buli is the first of the Three Musketeers. His personality is non-confrontational; will not fight even if provoked. He just rolls on his back. A very good protector. Any noise, he begins to bark. And bark. And bark. And bark.

Buki - is the 2nd Musketeer. He will also be 6 this year. He is a sweetie and a total mother The untilmate "Worrier". He mothers everyone. He is always cleaning the other dogs. When it's bath time, he is right by my leg moaning while bathing is going on. When the dog comes out of the bath, Buki immediately runs up, sniffs, make sure the dog is fine and then begans the licking. This habit of his has been happening since he came into our home 5 1/2 years ago. You would think he would know the procedure by now, but no.

Bodhi is the 3rd Musketeer. Bodhi thinks he is all that. The Stud. (he is neutered-all are neutered/spayed). He will bully the other dogs, including the dane, but warms up to the girls immediately. He watches over all the girls from the moment they become family members. He is very protective. He also likes to start things; like howling and/or barking spurts or games. He likes to lead everyone everywhere. He HAS to be center of attention. Has to be. Bodhi will be 5 this year.

Homer is the love bug. He is a mass of snuggles and plops. He thinks he is a big, huge protector. He will bark and scratch and scratch and bark at almost anyone or anything. He is a plopper. He does not lay down. He plops. A massive heap of silky, long, black hair. You can't tell his head from his butt when he has plopped. He gives kisses, but only when he wants. He knows he is a cutie. He and his brother were 4 this year.

Maynard is Homer's brother. Maynard lives in Maynard World. He is my "special Peke". Most of the time I have no clue what Maynard is thinking or why he is doing whatever it is he's doing. I don't even think Maynard knows what he is doing. He does a mean Stevie Wonder impression though. Maynard is the dog that I always say 'I don't know' when someone asks what he is doing or why.

Next blog post will introduce Gertie, Oscar, Bessie and Jessie and Henry the Dane. A special tribute to our Hazel Heart who passed in APril.

A new day

A new month and a new day. Along with the new day has come a new attitude, strength and happiness.
Hazel has been gone for two months today. It is time I pick up all the emotional baggage, put it away and get started on all the things I said I was going to do to honor Hazel.
Over the past 4 weeks there has been a series of events that led to where I stand today. Though many would be devasted by the events, ( I did have a few moments, but they were only moments), I see it as a sign to do what I need to do to achieve what I want to achieve.
I have always been told 'things happen for a reason'. I believe that and now have the opportunity to experience it, fully aware I AM experiencing it instead of wondering why things are hapenning.

People and contacts have come into my life from out of nowhere. Doors have opened, opportunities blossom. All I need is my dedication and will to make it all come together.

And so, with this new found energy, insight and the goal to make Hazel a household name, I will be blogging daily, doing my radio show and expanding my wooferful business, Hazel's Bakery & Diner, all organic, fresh and healthy. "We may not look fancy, but plain is wooferful and healthy".

Follow us on twitter; pinkpoodlebaker, check out our website, Hazelsbakery.com ( we our upgrading our site and will premier it soon), read our blog here and our Facebook page is coming soon.

Although my heart is still broken by Hazel's needless passing, my desire to honor her is more. Come join me on this wooferful journey as we work their our grief and do some marvelous things for dogs.

Afterall it is all about the dogs.
